Subject - Purpose

The Postgraduate Studies Programme aims at the specialization of higher education graduates in: a) integrated management of farm animal breeding, innovative technologies and sustainable breeding practices for the production of high quality animal products, with emphasis on modern animal welfare and environmental protection protocols and b) the rational management, conservation and balance of wild animal populations in ecosystems, techniques to determine the need for human intervention to protect endangered species and breeds, generating knowledge about invasive species and the potential risks they may pose,  maintaining biodiversity under the one health concept.

The objectives of the programme are to provide students with:

  •  the understanding of the need to conserve and protect indigenous farm animal breeds and biodiversity,
  •  the knowledge regarding the wild fauna management and conservation strategies,
  •  the ability to organise and manage farm animal breeding in an integrated and sustainable manner,
  •  the understanding and capacity to use the tools of the Common Agricultural Policy,
  •  the skill to take decisions and formulate strategies in line with European Union requirements for the environment and biodiversity, in livestock production.
  •  the capability to use modern technologies for rearing farm animals in an environmentally balanced way.

Duration of the programme: 4 semesters

Language of Instruction: Greek and/or English.
